I’ve been fortunate to work on projects that require hand-drawn animation, live animation, and even stop motion animation. In the span of a single year, I added the title of freelance animator to my freelance illustrator and freelance art director credentials. I guess I have the pandemic to “thank” for that.

Unflood Ontario: Simple Solutions

Unflood Ontario is a campaign that aims to educate residents of Ontario on protecting their homes from floods. Not only did I conceive these fun little videos with my partner, copywriter Jim Diorio, I also get credit for art direction, puppet making, set design, stop motion animation, logo design, and production – all of which I managed to accomplish in less than 9 weeks. Another credit goes to the pandemic for evaporating my many clients thus giving me enough time to learn stop motion!

Continuity X

One helluva live animation project with an impossible deadline. This brand video launched a new cyber-security product and also taught me how to create 2 minutes of hand-drawn animation in under 8 weeks. I used ProCreate to draw each frame in a single-line drawing style, then (drumroll) iMovie and FinalCut Pro to throw all 2,880 frames together. My role on this project also required art direction, logo design and video editing.

BÜ: An App for A**holes

Halloween was around the corner, my partner and I were unemployed, with a whole lot of nothing on the calendar. So we invented an app that was designed to scare the crap out of you. It began as a joke. I guess it ended as one, too. But in between, I got to create, illustrate, and animate my first full-length animated brand video – even if it was a fake one. All illustrations were drawn in Adobe Illustrator, and animation was done, frame-by-frame, in iMovie (I know, there is a pattern here).

Happy Birthday, Canada.

I created this animated story to the magical vocals of Danny Greaves, which were beautifully arranged by Ari Posner. Every frame was illustrated, rotoscoped and animated in ProCreate, and the edit was done in iMovie and FinalCut Pro.
